本剧讲述晚清至民国两大香业家族制香人的儿女情长和家国爱恨。炼香大户宁昊天迎亲当天，未婚妻香雪吟与师弟安秋声私奔，丫环素云假扮小姐嫁入宁府，后诞下一对龙凤胎---天生没有嗅觉的儿子宁致远和女儿宁佩珊。雪吟产下一个体带异香的女婴，名为安若欢，后阴差阳错为救夫喝下毒药身亡。安秋声误认为文家大夫人间接害死自己的爱人，故拐走其子文世倾更名安逸尘；被休掉的颂娴深山巧遇迷路的安若欢，决心抚养其长大。几人不约而同地给孩子们使用了“忘忧香”，抹去了他们过往的记忆。十二年后，魔王岭先后发生数起少女失踪案，逸尘到魔王岭破案，实际是听从秋声的安排去“报仇”，借机整垮文家和宁家。逸尘找到日本同学惠子帮助，岂料惠子父亲太郎不仅要夺得香谱，还要一举吞并魔王岭。安乐颜到宁家打工，与宁致远成为欢喜冤家。
