《西游记后传》的故事发生在唐僧师徒西天取经之后。魔头无天在如来佛祖圆寂后大闹三界，唐僧被关在冥界，悟空与八戒历经艰辛找到如来的转世肉身乔灵儿，与无天展开一场恶斗。孙悟空一角由曹荣出演，剧中的孙悟空可谓非常正经，不再是取经前的皮猴子了，一本正经地做起他的斗战胜佛，为了维护三界的太平，孙悟空更是劳心劳力。
