本片从人性内心出发，通过不同的形式讲述了16个或与社会话题有关，或是杂揉了现实和虚幻，或是将抽象的恐怖具象化的现实主义惊悚恐怖短篇故事。其中有的故事细思极恐，有的故事具象感受，有的故事迷幻氤氲，有的故事反映现实。每一个故事都力图通过不同的现实媒介与电影手法去探索恐怖类型片的边界，在致敬经典恐怖片手法的同时开创全新的反类型恐怖片，力图给生活来点刺激。
